KAKIZOME: Setting Intentions with the First Calligraphy Writing of the Year
Kakizome (書き初め), meaning “first writing,” is a beautiful Japanese New Year tradition of beginning the year with calligraphy, intention, and mindful presence. It is a time to pause, reflect, and gently plant the seeds of what we wish to grow in the year ahead.
Traditionally practiced at the start of the New Year, Kakizome symbolizes renewal, hope, and a fresh beginning. In modern times, people often write auspicious kanji—simple yet powerful characters that express their dreams, values, and heartfelt intentions for the coming year.
You are warmly invited to join Satori Family Wellness Center as Tao Calligraphy Teacher Laurie guides you through a sacred and meaningful experience, integrating the Japanese tradition of Kakizome with the sacred transformative art of Tao Calligraphy. This gentle practice supports clarity, inner alignment, and the manifestation of positive intentions for the New Year.
Each participant will be gently supported in writing their own calligraphy.
-
New participants will be guided step by step to write one character.
-
Those with prior experience may choose to write a Greatest Tao Quality, such as Greatest Love, Greatest Forgiveness, Greatest Compassion, Greatest Light, Greatest Humility, Greatest Harmony, Greatest Gratitude, Greatest Service
A Tao Calligraphy Blessing will be offered to all registered participants during the event, and special participant-only packages will be available.
